# Add, rename and archive clients

Manage every client from Settings, Clients: add one, fix its name, archive it, and assign ad accounts that don't belong to anyone yet.

A client is one business inside your organization. Each keeps its own ad accounts, boards, personas and reports. To see how clients fit together, read [How Marxx is organised](/help/how-marxx-is-organised).

Manage them in **Settings**, then **Clients**.

## Read the Clients page

Each row shows a client with its **Status**, **Ad accounts**, **Spend, 30 days**, **Ads**, **Competitors** and **People**. The status is one of:

- **Connected**: the client has ad accounts and they are healthy.
- **No ad account**: nothing is connected yet.
- **1 account needs attention** (or a higher count): an ad account must be reconnected.

Use the **All**, **Needs setup** and **Connected** tabs, or search, to find a client. Select a client's name to switch to it and land on Home. The client you are in has a **Viewing** badge.

## Add a client

Only organization admins see **Add client**.

1. Select **Add client**.

2. Enter a **Client name** and pick a **Color**. The color is the client's chip in the switcher.

3. Select **Add client**. You will see "<name> added".

The new client starts with **No ad account**. Switch to it, then connect Meta from **Settings**, **Integrations**. See [Connect Meta](/help/connect-meta).

## Rename a client

1. On the client's row, open the **Actions** menu and choose **Edit**.

2. Change the **Client name** or **Color**.

![The Edit client window with a new name typed and the Update the link too checkbox highlighted](/media/help/manage-clients-05-edit-dialog.webp)
3. Select **Save client**.

Leave **Update the link too** unticked unless you need a new link. Each client has a link that starts with /w/. Ticking the box changes it, and existing links to the old one stop working.

### Fix a client named after a Meta page id

Some clients were created from a Meta page, and their name is just its id, a long number. These rows show "Named after its Meta page id. Rename it so the switcher reads properly." Edit the client and give it the business name, so you can recognise it in the switcher.

## Assign ad accounts to a client

If an ad account belongs to no client, a section called **Ad accounts with no client** appears under the table. It says: "These belong to no client yet, so nothing analyzes them. Choose who they belong to."

Until an account has a client, Marxx doesn't analyze it. For each account:

1. Open **Choose a client...** beside its name.

![The Ad accounts with no client section, with the Choose a client menu on the first account highlighted](/media/help/manage-clients-06-unassigned-accounts.webp)
2. Pick the client.

You will see "Ad account moved". The section disappears once every account has a client.

## Archive a client

Only admins see **Archive**, and only when you have more than one client. You can't archive your last client.

1. Open the **Actions** menu on the client's row and choose **Archive**.
2. Read the prompt: "Its ads, boards, personas and reports are kept. The client stops appearing in the switcher."

![The Archive Harbor Home confirmation with the Archive client button highlighted](/media/help/manage-clients-07-archive-confirm.webp)
3. Select **Archive client**.

Archiving does not delete anything. The client just leaves the switcher.

## Warning icons in the switcher

In the client switcher, an icon beside a client points to a problem with one of its ad accounts:

- A triangle means "An ad account needs reconnecting". Open **Settings**, **Integrations** with that client selected and reconnect. See [Reconnect Meta](/help/reconnect-meta).
- A clock means "An ad account has stopped updating". See [Data not showing](/help/data-not-showing).

When the active client has a problem, a coloured dot appears on its chip in the collapsed sidebar.
