Google Ads has removed the campaign language setting from Search campaigns, and advertisers reported on **4 November 2026** that it is now gone from their accounts. Google picks the searcher's language from your ad text instead, so a Hindi ad shows to Hindi searchers whatever the campaign once said.

## What we know

Google's [help page on language targeting](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/1722078) confirms the setting "will be removed" for Search campaigns, starting September 2026. Google says Search ads "will automatically match based on the language of your ads", and that advertisers need to do nothing. [PPC News Feed reported](https://ppcnewsfeed.com/ppc-news/2026-11/search-campaign-language-targeting-removed-google-ads/) on 4 November 2026 that the setting is now fully removed, citing a post by an advertiser. Google has not given a finish date.

| Campaign type | Does the language setting still count? |
|---|---|
| Search | No, Google reads your ad's language |
| Performance Max, on Search | No |
| Performance Max, on YouTube, Display, Discover, Gmail | Yes |
| Shopping ads in Performance Max | No, never did |

## What it means for your ad account

The language of your ad copy now decides who sees it. An English ad can show to someone searching in Hinglish, and a mixed-language ad may be matched in ways you did not plan. Accounts that kept one campaign per language for India or the UAE still work, but the setting no longer does the sorting.

## What to do this week

1. **Write each ad in one language.** Do not mix Hindi and English, or Arabic and English, in one ad group.
2. **Keep separate campaigns per language** so budgets and reports stay clean.
3. **Check your search terms report** for queries in a language you did not write for.
4. **Match the landing page** to the ad's language. See [how to make ads in regional Indian languages](/guides/how-to-make-ads-in-regional-indian-languages) and these [ad copy examples in Hindi](/templates/ad-copy-examples-in-hindi).
5. **Note the change** in your [weekly ad report](/guides/how-to-build-a-weekly-ad-report) so a shift in search terms is not misread.

## FAQ

### Do I need to change anything for my campaigns to keep running?

No. Google says no action is required. Your ads keep running and are matched by their own language.

### Can I still target Arabic speakers in the UAE?

Yes, by writing the ads in Arabic. Google matches them to people searching in Arabic.

### Does this affect YouTube ads?

Not inside Performance Max. Google says the language setting still applies to YouTube, Display, Discover and Gmail there.
