Google Ads now lets you save edits to a Performance Max asset group as an A/B test, a change [PPC News Feed reported](https://ppcnewsfeed.com/ppc-news/2026-11/pmax-lets-you-save-asset-group-edits-as/) on **3 November 2026**. Your old assets keep getting part of the traffic, so you can see whether new headlines or videos do better before they replace the old ones.

## What we know

Google's [help page on A/B testing assets](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/16807329) describes the flow and labels it Beta. Google has not said which accounts get it first.

1. Open the asset group and select the pencil icon under **Assets**.
2. Make your changes on the **Edit assets** page.
3. Turn on **Save asset group changes as an A/B test**.
4. In the panel, check the control and treatment arms, the name, the **Treatment traffic split** and the success metrics.
5. Tick the box to apply the changes if the treatment arm wins, then select **Create test**.

Google recommends running the test for at least 4 to 6 weeks.

## What it means for your ad account

Until now, changing a Performance Max asset group swapped the old assets out at once, so a drop in results was hard to blame on the new creative. This test keeps a fair comparison running. The trade-off is that you cannot edit, add or remove assets in that group until the test ends.

| Setting | Can it run this test? |
|---|---|
| Campaign-level budget and bidding | Yes |
| Shared budget | No |
| Portfolio bid strategy | No |
| Asset group already at its asset limit | No |

## What to do this week

1. **Pick one asset group** with steady conversions, not a new one.
2. **Change one thing**, such as the videos or the headlines, so you know what made the difference.
3. **Plan the 4 to 6 weeks.** A test started now ends after most Black Friday sales, so do not start one on a group you need to change during a sale.
4. **Log the test** in a [creative testing tracker](/templates/creative-testing-tracker-template) and set a [testing budget](/guides/how-to-build-a-creative-testing-budget).

## FAQ

### What happens if the new assets lose?

Nothing changes. Google discards the test assets and your asset group goes back to its original state.

### Can I test assets across two asset groups?

No. Google says each experiment tests assets within a single asset group.

### Is this the same as dynamic creative on Meta?

No. [Dynamic creative](/glossary/dynamic-creative) mixes pieces automatically. This test compares your old asset set with a new one.
