Descript has a free plan with a watermark. The cheapest paid plan, Hobbyist, is $16 a person a month billed yearly, or $24 billed monthly (checked 3 Nov 2026).

## Plans and prices

Descript shows two prices on each plan card and does not label them. We list the lower one as yearly and the higher one as monthly. The lower one matches Descript's "saving up to 35%" note. Prices are per person a month, shown in $ with no currency code (checked 3 Nov 2026).

## What the free plan includes

- Text-based editing: you edit the video by editing its transcript.
- 1 media hour a month and 100 AI credits, given once.
- 720p exports with a watermark.
- 5GB of storage and a 1GB upload limit.

## Which plan fits

- **Hobbyist** suits one person cutting talking-head ads. It removes the watermark and adds filler-word removal.
- **Creator** suits agencies. It adds 4K and exports a timeline to other editors.
- **Business** suits teams. It adds up to 5 seats and a shared Brand Studio.

Descript transcribes Hindi, but its help page marks Hindi as Beta.

## A worked example

Say you cut 12 ads a month, and each ad uses 20 minutes of media.

- 12 x 20 = 240 minutes, which is 4 hours.
- Free gives 1 hour, so it covers 3 ads (3 x 20 = 60 minutes).
- Hobbyist gives 10 hours, so 4 hours uses 40% of it.
- Hobbyist billed yearly costs 12 x $16 = $192 a year. Billed monthly it costs 12 x $24 = $288.
