An **execution** is one full run of a workflow, for example "a new lead came in, post it to Slack".

## What the free edition includes

The Community Edition is the n8n software itself, free to self-host. You need a server, someone to install n8n and someone to keep it updated. If the server stops, your workflows stop with it. It suits a team with a developer who already looks after servers.

The cloud trial gives 1,000 executions to try the hosted version before you pay.

## A worked example

Here is what each plan costs over a year at list price.

Now the self-hosted route. Say a small server costs INR 1,200 a month and a developer spends 3 hours a month on updates and fixes, at INR 1,000 an hour.

1. Server: INR 1,200 x 12 = INR 14,400 a year.
2. Upkeep: 3 hours x INR 1,000 x 12 = INR 36,000 a year.
3. Total: INR 50,400 a year, with no licence fee.

In this example the developer's time costs more than the server. Price your own hours before you assume self-hosting is cheapest.

## Which plan suits which team

- **Community Edition:** teams with a developer and many custom flows.
- **Starter:** a small team that wants n8n without running a server.
- **Pro:** heavier use. Check its execution limits on n8n's page.
- **Business:** larger companies that need to self-host with n8n's business plan.

## Cheaper or different options

Zapier has a free plan with 100 tasks a month, and Professional at $19.99 a month billed yearly (checked 6 Nov 2026). Make gives 1,000 credits a month free, and Pabbly Connect lists rupee prices.
