A good AI video editing prompt asks for one task on one part of the video and names the result you want. Copy the prompts below, change the brackets and run them one at a time.

## The formula

Prompt = one task + which part + the style + one limit

For example: "Add captions to the whole video, one word at a time, with the price in yellow."

## 12 prompts to copy

We wrote these prompts. Reword them to suit your tool.

```
CLEAN UP
1. Remove the silences and filler words from the whole timeline and close the gaps.
2. Remove every "[word]" from the dialogue.
3. Keep only the parts where I talk about [topic]. Cut the rest by transcript.
CAPTIONS
4. Add word-by-word captions to the whole video. Highlight the key words.
5. Add phrase-level captions and an emoji where it fits.
SOUND
6. Lower the music under my voice and bring it back up in the gaps.
7. Add a short sound effect when the price appears.
SHOTS AND SIZE
8. Add b-roll over every line where I mention the product.
9. Reframe this video for Reels.
LENGTH AND STYLE
10. Fit this cut to [30] seconds. Keep the hook and the offer.
11. Finish this cut in a fast, punchy style for Reels.
LEARN FROM AN AD
12. Break down this ad shot by shot: where the hook lands, how long each shot holds and where the offer appears.
```

## Weak prompt, strong prompt

| Weak prompt | Strong prompt |
|---|---|
| "Make it better" | "Remove silences and filler words, then add word-by-word captions" |
| "Make it shorter" | "Fit this cut to 20 seconds. Keep the hook and the offer" |
| "Fix the sound" | "Lower the music under my voice and bring it back in the gaps" |
| "Add some shots" | "Add b-roll over every line where I mention the product" |

## A worked example

Say you have a 48-second talking-head clip and you want a 30-second Reel. Run the prompts in this order.

1. Prompt 1 removes 9 seconds of silences and filler words: 48 - 9 = 39 seconds.
2. Prompt 10 fits the cut to 30 seconds, so it must lose 39 - 30 = 9 more seconds.
3. Prompt 4 adds captions last, because every cut moves the words.

Clean up first, set the length second and add captions last.

## Tips

- **One task per prompt.** A prompt with four jobs gives four half-done jobs.
- **Use numbers.** Say "30 seconds", not "short".
- **Say what to keep.** Name the hook, the offer or the logo.
- **Check each result before the next prompt.** Undo what you do not like.
- **Save the prompts that work.** Keep a list for each client.

## Where to run them

Marxx's [AI video editor](/features/ai-video-editor) has an assistant that does these tasks on the timeline, and each request lands as one undo step. A competitor ad can be added as reference media for prompt 12. We make Marxx.

## FAQ

### Which prompt should I run first?

Run the clean-up prompts first. Cuts change the timing, so lengths and captions come after.

### Can I trust an AI edit without watching it?

No. Watch every result on a phone before you export, as the checklist says.
