A Google Ads headline template is a fill-in line that fits in 30 characters and does one job. Below are 30, grouped by that job. Use at least four groups in each responsive search ad, because Google mixes your headlines.

A responsive search ad takes 3 to 15 headlines, each up to 30 characters (checked 2026-10-20 on [Google's help page](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/7684791)). Count spaces and punctuation after you fill the brackets, because your words are longer than the slots.

## Match the search

1. "[Service] in [City]"
2. "[Product] Online"
3. "[Product] for [Buyer]"
4. "Shop [Product] Today"
5. "{KeyWord:[Default text]}"

Google swaps the code in line 5 for one of your ad group keywords. If the keyword does not fit, it shows your default text (checked 2026-10-20). Pick a default that reads well on its own.

## Offer

6. "INR [X] Off Your First Order"
7. "Free Delivery Above INR [X]"
8. "Starting at INR [price]"
9. "Buy [N], Get [N] Free"
10. "[X]% Off Until [Date]"

Use a real end date, or leave it out.

## Proof (true only)

11. "[N]+ Customers Served"
12. "Rated [4.x] on [Platform]"
13. "Since [Year]"
14. "[N]-Day Money-Back Promise"
15. "Made in [City]"

## Action

16. "Book Online in [N] Minutes"
17. "Get a Free Quote Today"
18. "Order by [Time] for Same-Day"
19. "Call for a Free Demo"
20. "Start Free for [N] Days"

## Objection

21. "No Hidden Charges"
22. "Pay After the Service"
23. "Easy [N]-Day Returns"
24. "Prices Shown Upfront"
25. "Cancel Any Time"

## Place and audience

26. "Home Visit Across [City]"
27. "Serving [Area] and [Area]"
28. "Built for [Role]"
29. "Open [Days], [Hours]"
30. "Near [Landmark]"

## A filled-in set

Say you clean sofas in Mumbai. Here are 12 headlines from the groups above.

| Group | Headline | Characters |
|---|---|---|
| Match | Sofa Cleaning in Mumbai | 23 |
| Offer | INR 200 Off Your First Clean | 25 |
| Action | Book Online in 2 Minutes | 24 |
| Objection | Pay After the Service | 21 |
| Objection | Prices Shown Upfront | 20 |
| Place | Home Visit Across Mumbai | 24 |
| Match | Fabric and Leather Sofas | 24 |
| Action | Free Quote in 10 Minutes | 24 |
| Place | Serving Andheri to Thane | 24 |
| Action | Same-Day Slots on Request | 25 |
| Objection | No Hidden Charges | 17 |
| Action | Call Now for a Quote | 20 |

Every line fits in 30 characters. Keep only the claims that are true for your business.

## Tips

- Give each headline a different job. Ten headlines that say the same thing give Google nothing to test.
- Pin only what you must show, such as a legal line. Pinning cuts the number of combinations Google can try.
- Keep capital letters and punctuation plain.
- Review your headlines monthly and swap out the weakest.
- See full sets with descriptions in the [Google ads copy examples](/templates/google-ads-copy-examples). For lines that also work on Meta, see the [ad headline examples](/templates/ad-headline-examples).

Marxx reads Google Ads spend, campaigns and search terms through its connection, so you can pull headline words from what people actually typed. See [how to connect Google Ads to Claude](/guides/how-to-connect-google-ads-to-claude).

A better headline can earn more clicks, which can lower your [CPC](/glossary/cpc). Check [Ad Strength](/glossary/ad-strength), but treat it as a hint, not a score to chase.

## FAQ

### How long can a Google Ads headline be?

Up to 30 characters in a responsive search ad (checked 2026-10-20). Spaces and punctuation count.

### Should I fill all 15 headlines?

Fill as many as you have different ideas for. Google needs at least 3, and more varied headlines give it more to combine.
