A hook for a food or drink ad makes the buyer hungry or thirsty in the first three seconds, then gives one reason to order. These 30 hooks are grouped by pattern. We wrote them. They are not from real brands and have not been tested.

## Know the claims rule

FSSAI notified the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018. FSSAI says deceptive claims and advertisements are prohibited and punishable under Section 53 of the FSS Act, 2006, with a fine of up to INR 10 lakh. Every claim must meet the regulation's criteria, no false or exaggerated health claim is allowed, and functional claims must rest on current scientific evidence. FSSAI also has a committee that checks ads on social media (checked 2026-10-20 on the [FSSAI press note of 21 April 2023](https://www.fssai.gov.in/upload/press_release/2023/04/64436abae6d6fPRESS_NOTE_21042023.pdf)).

So taste, price and process hooks are safe ground. Treat words like "healthy", "natural" and "no added sugar" as claims, and check each against the regulation first.

## Taste and sound

1. "Listen to that crunch."
2. "Watch the cheese pull."
3. "Slow pour. Cold glass. Ice cracking."
4. "The first bite, in slow motion."
5. "Fresh out of the oven at 6am." Only if it is.

## Convenience

6. "Dinner in ten minutes. One pan."
7. "Heat, eat, done."
8. "Late meeting? Dinner is already sorted."
9. "Tiffin ideas that take five minutes."
10. "Breakfast for people who skip breakfast."

## Value

11. "INR [price] for [N] servings. That is INR [x] a serving."
12. "Café price: INR [a]. At home: INR [b]."
13. "The family pack, per serving."
14. "Dinner for INR [x]. A delivery order costs INR [y]."
15. "Buy two, share one."

Lines 12 and 14 need prices you can show.

## Ingredients and process

16. "Here is everything in the pack."
17. "Our recipe has [N] ingredients. Read every one."
18. "Made in small batches in [city]."
19. "From the farm in [place] to your kitchen."
20. "Watch how we make it."

## Occasions

21. "Tea time, sorted."
22. "Exam week snacks."
23. "Sunday brunch at home."
24. "A gift box for [festival]."
25. "Match day snacks for [N] people."

## Local and personal

26. "The [dish] my grandmother made in [place]."
27. "The taste of [region], delivered to [city]."
28. "Our first customer was my neighbour."
29. "The chutney that started it all."
30. "Ask our founder how we make it."

## A worked example: cost per serving

Say a pack of four meals costs INR 349. That is INR 349 / 4 = INR 87.25 a meal. Say a similar delivery order near you costs INR 320. The hook reads: "Dinner for about INR 87. A delivery order is INR 320."

Only run the comparison if you can show the INR 320 on a real menu and the meals are alike. Do not name the app.

## How to use these

- Film the real food, close up, in natural light. Sound helps the hook.
- Pick one dish per ad. A menu is not a hook.
- Add a taste-test reaction with a real customer. The [UGC script template](/templates/ugc-script-template) shows the beats.
- For festive gifting and offers, see the [festive ad copy examples](/templates/ad-copy-examples-for-festive-sales) and the [D2C offer examples](/templates/offer-examples-for-d2c-brands).
- For hooks that work across D2C, see [35 hooks for D2C ads](/templates/hooks-for-d2c-ads). To write your own, read [how to write ad hooks](/guides/how-to-write-ad-hooks).

Marxx has a browser extension that adds a Save button to the Meta Ad Library, so you can keep the food ads you like in one place.

## FAQ

### Can I say my food is healthy in an ad?

Treat it as a health claim. FSSAI says no false or exaggerated health claim is allowed and that claims need evidence (checked 2026-10-20). Check the wording against the regulation, or ask a food-law adviser.

### What matters more in a food hook, taste or price?

Test both. Start with taste for a new product, because people have to want it before price matters. Compare [hook rate](/glossary/hook-rate) across the two.
