An Instagram ad caption should make its point in the first 125 characters and end on one action. Below are 15 examples, grouped by pattern. A slash marks a line break.

We wrote these examples. They are not from real brands and have not been tested. Change the product, price and wording, and keep a claim only if it is true.

## Know the limit

Meta's Ads Guide recommends 125 characters of primary text and a 40-character headline for Instagram Feed image ads (checked 2026-10-20 on the [Meta Ads Guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/ads-guide/image/instagram-feed)). Text past that can sit behind "more", so write the first line as if it were the whole ad.

## Point first

1. "Café coffee at home for INR 45 a cup. / One bottle makes 10 cups. Tap Shop now."
2. "Phone dead by 4pm again? This 10,000 mAh power bank fits in a jeans pocket. / Tap to see it."
3. "What would you do with 5 free hours a week? Our meal kits take dinner off your plate. / See this week's menu."

## Offer

4. "INR 300 off your first order today. Free delivery above INR 999. / Offer ends at 11:59pm."
5. "Buy 2 candles, get the third at half price. Hand-poured in small batches. / Offer ends Sunday."

Write "ends Sunday" only if it does.

## Story

6. "We began in a kitchen in Indore with one recipe. Today we ship to [N] cities. / The first jar is INR 199."
7. "Many reviews said it runs small. So we changed the pattern. / See the new fit."

## Proof (real only)

8. "[N] reviews, [4.x] stars. Here is a 3-star one, and our reply. / Read it, then decide."
9. "'[A line from a real review].' [First name], verified buyer. / See all [N] reviews."

## Creator and partnership

10. "[Creator] tried our [product] for 7 days. Watch what she said on day 7. / Tap to shop her pick."

This suits a [partnership ad](/glossary/partnership-ads), so the ad runs from the creator's handle.

## Reels and carousels

11. "Watch [product] work in 15 seconds. / INR [price], free delivery."
12. "Three ways to wear one dupatta. Save this for the wedding season. / Shop the drop."
13. "Swipe: five steps to [result]. Step 1 takes 30 seconds. / Shop the kit."

## Local and straight talk

14. "New in Pune: weekend pottery classes for beginners. First class INR 499. / 12 seats only."
15. "This is not for everyone. It is for people who [want]. / If that is you, tap below."

Use line 14's "12 seats" only if the room really holds 12.

## A worked example: count the first line

Say your caption is: "Café coffee at home for INR 45 a cup. One bottle makes 10 cups. Tap Shop now." The first sentence, "Café coffee at home for INR 45 a cup.", is 34 characters. The whole caption is 74. Both fit inside 125, so nothing is hidden.

Now say you wrote a 210-character caption. Only about the first 125 are safe to rely on. Move the point and the price into that stretch, and put the extras after it.

## Tips

- Put the point before "more". Put hashtags, if you use any, at the end.
- Name one action. The button does the work, so the caption can say "tap" and stop.
- Do not repeat the words on the image. Add what the image cannot say.
- Write in your buyer's language. The [Hinglish ad copy examples](/templates/hinglish-ad-copy-examples) show a mixed tone.
- Pick a button from the [call to action examples](/templates/call-to-action-examples-for-ads). For general copy, see the [ad copy examples](/templates/ad-copy-examples).

Marxx tracks competitor ads on Meta and Google, so you can read the captions your rivals run. See [competitor tracking](/features/competitor-tracking).

## FAQ

### How long can an Instagram ad caption be?

Meta recommends 125 characters of primary text for Instagram Feed image ads (checked 2026-10-20). Longer captions are possible, but the extra text may sit behind "more".

### Are ad captions the same as post captions?

An ad caption is the ad's primary text. It sits above a button and a headline, so it should lead to them. If you boost a post instead, see [how to boost an Instagram post the right way](/guides/how-to-boost-an-instagram-post-the-right-way).
