A rate card is a one-page price list: each service, what it includes, the price, the turnaround and the revision rounds. Copy the template and fill in your own numbers, because market rates vary by editor, city and client.

## Example prices

These prices are made up. They are not market rates.

| Service | Price | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|
| Reel ad, up to 30 s | INR 2,500 | 2 days |
| Cutdown, up to 15 s | INR 1,200 | 1 day |
| Captions only | INR 500 | 1 day |
| Extra ratio | INR 600 | 1 day |
| Extra revision round | INR 500 | 1 day |

## A worked example

Say a client orders one Reel ad, two 15-second cutdowns and an extra 1:1 ratio, and wants it rushed.

- Reel ad: INR 2,500.
- Two cutdowns: 2 x INR 1,200 = INR 2,400.
- Extra ratio: INR 600.
- Subtotal: 2,500 + 2,400 + 600 = INR 5,500.
- Rush at +25%: 25% of 5,500 = INR 1,375.
- Total: 5,500 + 1,375 = INR 6,875, before GST.

Now check the hours. If the Reel takes you 3 hours, INR 2,500 / 3 = about INR 833 an hour. If that is below what you need, raise the price.

## How to set your prices

1. **Price each finished video.** Clients compare deliverables, not hours.
2. **Check the hours behind each price.** Time one real edit, then divide.
3. **Fix the revision rounds.** Two is common. Price extra rounds on the card.
4. **Say whether prices include GST.** The client should not have to guess.
5. **Add your costs.** Software and music licences come out of your price. See [video editing software pricing](/prices/video-editing-software-pricing).
6. **Put the card in every quote.** It saves a round of questions.

## Before you send it

Pair the card with a [video editor brief](/templates/video-editor-brief-template), so the client says what they need before you price it. Agencies can build the card into a [video editing SOP](/templates/video-editing-sop-template). ## FAQ

### Should I price per hour or per video?

Per video suits ads, because clients compare finished videos. Check the hours behind each price so you do not undercharge.

### Should the rate card include GST?

State whether your prices include GST or not. Then the client knows what the total will be.
