A weekly client update in Slack is one message the client can read in under a minute: three numbers against last week, what moved them, what you will do next and what you need from the client. Paste it into the shared channel on the same day each week and link the full report underneath.

## The template

Slack shows text between asterisks in bold.

```
*Weekly update: [Client], [date range]*
*Numbers* (vs last week)
Spend: INR [ ] ([+/-]%)
[Leads / Purchases]: [ ] ([+/-]%)
Cost per [lead / purchase]: INR [ ] (was INR [ ])
*What moved them*
[One or two sentences, naming the ad or campaign]
*Next week*
1. [Action]
2. [Action]
*Need from you*
[Question or approval, with a date]
```

## A filled-in example

Say Sunpeak Solar runs Meta lead ads for rooftop solar. Last week it spent INR 60,000 and got 75 leads, so INR 60,000 / 75 = INR 800 a lead. The week before, INR 55,000 bought 55 leads, or INR 1,000 a lead. Spend rose by INR 5,000, which is 9%. Leads rose by 20, which is 36%. Cost per lead fell by INR 200, or 20%.

```
*Weekly update: Sunpeak Solar, 27 Oct to 2 Nov*
*Numbers* (vs last week)
Spend: INR 60,000 (+9%)
Leads: 75 (+36%)
Cost per lead: INR 800 (was INR 1,000)
*What moved them*
The "bill before and after" reel brought 41 of the 75 leads.
*Next week*
1. Two new hooks on the same reel
2. Pause the static ad with the highest cost per lead
*Need from you*
Confirm the November offer by Wednesday.
## Tips
- **Same day, same time.** Monday before noon suits most clients.
- **Three numbers, no more.** The full report holds the rest. Our [weekly ad report template](/templates/weekly-ad-report-template) is a good base for it.
- **Name the ad.** "The reel did well" tells the client nothing. "The bill before and after reel" does.
- **One ask with a date.** Clients answer a clear question faster.
- **Answer replies in the thread** so each week's questions stay with that week's update.
- **Check the numbers in your internal channel first.** Never post raw alerts or lead contact details here.
The [monthly client report template](/templates/monthly-client-report-template) covers the longer monthly view, and [how to build a weekly ad report](/guides/how-to-build-a-weekly-ad-report) shows how to pull the numbers.
We make Marxx. In your internal client channel, a teammate can ask "@Marxx how did our Meta ads do last week?" and use the answer to fill in the numbers. See [Marxx in Slack](/features/slack).
## FAQ
### Should the update go in a thread or the main channel?
Post it in the main channel so it is easy to find, then answer questions in its thread.
### What if the client is not on Slack?
Send the same text on WhatsApp or email. The format works anywhere.
### Should I include Google Ads in the same update?
Yes, if you run both. Add one line per platform under Numbers and keep the total at the top.
